MINOT – Twice there were early leads and twice they didn’t stand up in the 2026 season openers for Jamestown Blue Jays Baseball.
Minot came back in each game Friday to sweep a doubleheader from JHS 6-5 and 4-2 at Corbett Field.
Game 1: Minot 6, Jamestown 5
Minot (3-2, 2-1 WDA) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off Jamestown’s Kyler Perkins (0-1) to complete a comeback from a 5-0 deficit.
The Magicians entered the inning down 5-1, but a walk, single and error loaded the bases. Perkins threw a wild pitch to bring home the inning’s first run. Following another walk, Oliver Deschamp delivered a two-run single to bring Minot within 5-4, then Owen Sundal slammed a two-run double into the gap in left center field to put Minot into the lead.
Jamestown (0-1, 0-1) scored four runs in the first inning, taking advantage of the wildness of Minot starting pitcher Brody Johnson. Brenner Weber was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by Cody Busch with an RBI on a walk. The third and fourth runs of the inning scored on the same play, a Johnson wild pitch followed by an error.
Ethan Oettle made the Blue Jay lead 5-0 in the second with an RBI hit-&-run single that scored Nolan Maulding from first base.
Shane Martin was excellent in his first varsity start for Jamestown, giving up just a run and four hits and five strikeouts in five innings.
Jamestown stranded eight runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the third inning.
Game 1: Minot 4, Jamestown 2
Again, Minot (4-2, 3-1 WDA) charged back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 4-2 after once trailing 2-0.
Hudson Rode (0-1) uncorked a wild pitch to score the tying run for Minot, then an RBI single by Drew Jordan gave the Magicians the lead. Gavin King provided an insurance run with an RBI single.
Jamestown (0-2, 0-2) scored first once again as Edison Walters had an RBI groundout in the first inning. However, Brayden Hemminger was caught stealing home to end the inning.
Ethan Oettle stole home on the back end of a double steal for the Blue Jays’ other run in the third inning.
Jamestown will meet Legacy on Tuesday at the Sanford Sports Complex’s First International Bank Field.
