FESSENDEN (NewsDakota)- The Region 2B opener for Cardinal softball did not get off to a great start at all, but once Carrington got going, they really got going.
The Cards scored 18 of the last 19 runs to overcome a 7-0 deficit and defeat the Harvey/Wells County Hornets 18-8 in six innings on Thursday in Fessenden.
The Hornets scored six runs in the first inning, with Aubrey Bartz doubling home a run, Ava Kara singling home a run plus two-run hits by Rebecca Copenhaver and Britain Kittleson for a 6-0 lead. Kara added an RBI in the second and it was 7-0.
But then Carrington (1-3, 1-0 Region 2B) woke up in a big way, scoring seven runs on three hits in the third inning which included four bases loaded walks and a two-run double from Aubrey Neis and, from there, the Cards pulled away as Maara Kutz had two doubles that each plated a pair of runs as part of her second consecutive five-RBI game. In relief, Brina Wolsky tossed five innings, allowing only three hits and two runs while striking out eight for her first varsity win.
Carrington travel to Steele on April 24th at 4:30pm to face the Wilton-Wing Miners.
