VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A rear wheel axle assembly broke off the end of a semi trailer traveling westbound on Interstate 94 in Valley City. Sparks from the dragging wheel axle assembly caused a small grass fire in the north ditch of the interstate on Monday, May 11th shortly after 12pm.
Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind said traffic came to a stand still until law enforcement and other first responders were able to clear one lane of the interstate to let traffic move forward. He said no injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation with the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Barnes County Sheriff’s office, Valley City Police Department, Barnes County Ambulance, and Valley City Rural Fire Department firefighters. More details are available in the full interview with Captain Niewind.
