Coming off a banner win over a solid Breckenridge team, Wahpeton continued its improved play Tuesday, albeit in a losing effort at Fargo Shanley.
The Deacons held on for the sweep by scores of 3-2 and 13-12.
George Giobres ran through the Wahpeton lineup in game one in a 117-pitch outing. The pitcher tossed all seven innings, scattering six hits and three walks while striking out 14.
Aiden Hajek went toe-to-toe with the Shanley ace, firing six innings of four-hit baseball. Hajek issued four walks and fanned four, allowing just two earned runs.
Ryan Ommen was the only Deacon with two hits. Caleb Dahl doubled and scored a run, while Cole Stimpson, Strand and Ommen each drove in a run.
Wahpeton was paced by two hits apiece from Carter Hockert and Cayson Pinsonneault. Hockert scored a run and Pinsonneault drove in another, while Evan Dockter scored once from the No. 9 spot and Dylan Vierstraete delivered pinch-hit RBI.
Game two was a slugfest, as Wahpeton tallied a season-high 16 hits and Shanley recorded 10.
Hockert had a career contest, batting 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs. Hajek belted a solo shot and finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
Rylan Flack produced in the cleanup spot, going 2-for-3 and supplying four runs. Cale Gilbertson stayed on the upswing in a 2-for-5 performance.
Shanley utilized three pitchers, working around six defensive errors. Daniel Johnson earned the win after tossing four relief innings and allowing two earned runs. Johnson worked around heavy traffic by dialing up four strikeouts.
Hockert took a no-decision for Wahpeton, completing 5 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs and striking out six. Pinsonneault settled for the loss, working 2 1/3 innings and surrendering three earned runs. The righty allowed three hits and three walks while punching out three.
