MANDAN – In a season where Jamestown Blue Jays Baseball had a lot of frustration, its offense had the ultimate frustration as the season ended.
Mandan righthanders Ty Weiler and Troy Gerhardt combined on a no-hitter Monday as Mandan blanked Jamestown 2-0 in a Class A West Region Tournament play-in game at Veterans Memorial Ballpark.
Weiler (4-2) pitched the first six innings, striking out six, walking two and retiring the last 16 batters he faced after allowing consecutive walks to Bennett Goehner and Ethan Oettle in the first inning. Weiler recorded six strikeouts.
Gerhardt issued a one-out walk in the top of the seventh to Oettle, then struck out Cody Busch and retired Haden Smith on a comebacker to the mound to end the game and the season for Jamestown (10-17).
The best chance for a hit for the Blue Jays came with one out in the top of the fifth. Nolan Maudling smashed a line drive off the webbing of the glove of Mandan shortstop Aiden Bogner. After the ball rose a few feet, it landed directly in Bogner’s mitt.
The Braves (14-14) scored their runs with two out in both the first and second innings. Jack Tooke singled in Gerhardt, who had singled and stolen second base, in the first inning. In the second, Aaden Pfilger singled, then was doubled home by Liam Keller.
Shane Martin (2-3), who struck out 12 in a home win over Mandan on May 5, struck out six and did not walk a batter in pitching a complete game five-hitter.
Chase Collings of Williston threw the last previous no-hitter against Jamestown, a 10-0 five-inning win at Ardean Aafedt Stadium on May 16, 2024.
