N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-Jake Hagler had a day to remember as he poured in a career high 32 points to help the UJ Jimmies defeat the visiting Comets of Mayville State U. Hagler, needing 9 points to reach 1,ooo in his Jimmy career, scored the first 12 points of the contest for the Jimmies, drilling 3 3-balls and getting fouled in the act of another, connecting on all 3 of the free throw attempts. Hagler was just getting things started for the day as he finished the game hitting 9 of 14 field goals (7 of 11 from 3 point range), and was 7-7 from the charity stripe. Hagler also dished out 4 assists, grabbed 4 rebounds, and added 2 steals.
In addition to Hagler’s day, Logan Brown and Jacob Havron both added 10 points. Kiwane Crowder added 9 points and Christian Kvilvang added 8 points. Havron led the Jimmies with 8 rebounds and also added 4 assists. Brown and Crowder also added 4 assists each.
The Jimmies finished the game making 27 of 53 field goal attempts, including 11-22 from 3-point land, good for 51 percent overall. The Comets, who trailed by as many as 20 (45-25), late in the first half, finished the game shooting 40 percent overall on 25 of 63 shooting. The Comets cut the Jimmy lead down to 6 points twice in the second half but could never get any closer as the Jimmies built there lead back into double digits late in the game.
The Comets were paced by Ben Maranan’s 21 points and Eric Staebler’s 17 points. The Comets dropped to 6-5 overall (0-4 NSAA).
The Jimmies who improved to 8-7 overall (4-1 NSAA), will play at St. Cloud State on Monday in an exhibition game starting at 7:00 P.M.
