CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner basketball teams are back in action tonight, with the boys playing their final regular-season game, and the girls playing their second-to-last matchup.
The girls will host Fargo Shanley, while the boys play at Shanley to wrap up their Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) season.
The Hi-Liner boys will be the 10th seed in the East Region tournament, and will play on the road at the seventh-seed in the play-in round. As of today, Grand Forks Central is in seventh place at 6-10 in EDC play. Devils Lake is 5-12, and has a game left at Central. Central hosts Devils Lake and Fargo Davies to finish the season. A win for the Knights in either game guarantees them seventh place.
Should Devils Lake win, they would need help from Davies in the form of Davies beating Central in Grand Forks Thursday night. That scenario would allow Devils Lake to claim the seventh seed, bringing Valley City back to Devils Lake for the play-in.
The Hi-Liner girls have Shanley tonight and Devils Lake Thursday, each game worth two points in the EDC. Valley City must win both to avoid the play-in round of the EDC tournament. One win will put them with six points in the EDC, where Wahpeton and Fargo North are currently. The Hi-Liners are third in that three-way tie.
Should they lose both, the Hi-Liners would finish ninth in the EDC, and would likely play at Devils Lake in the play-in round. If the Hi-Liners beat Devils Lake Thursday night, they would likely play them at home again in the play-in round a day or two later.
Both games start at 7:30 p.m. The boys will be heard on KOVC-AM 1490, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m.
