N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – It came down to the final event of the pentathlon for Kaiann Arellano (JR/Jamestown, N.D.).
The Jamestown junior finished second in the 800 meters, running a career-best 2:29.59 to jump from 11th place to 7th overall to earn All-American honors for the first time as the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championships began Thursday.
Arellano was 4th in the high jump (1.58m), 8th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.40 seconds), 13th in the shot put (8.54m), and 14th in the long jump (4.84m).

Chelsea Baker of Friends was the winner, finishing with 3698 points. Westmont’s Becky Collier was second with 3516 points, and Crystal Schmidt of Carroll third with 3413 points.
The Jimmie 4×400 meter relay team also competed on Thursday, but did not qualify for the finals. The team of Kylee Voigt (FR/Jamestown, N.D.), Julia Johnson (FR/Park River, N.D.), Hannah Christenson (SO/Rugby, N.D.), and Rachel Heuchert (SR/Browerville, Minn.) ran a time of 4:06.44, which was fourth in their heat.
