N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  Day two of the 2017 Class B Region 3 High School Baseball Tourney continued on Tuesday at Carrington City Park with three games.  Just three teams out of five remain and will play Wednesday for a shot at the title.  Here are Tuesday’s results:

No. 3 Kidder County 15  No. 5 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 5, 5 innings

MPB Thunder scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead, but the Pirates would get those runs back in the bottom of the second inning after sending eight batters to the plate and tying the game at three all.  Junior Ethan Hager was part of the onslaught, hitting a two-run double.  The Thunder scored two more runs in the top of the third inning, Sophomore Gunnar Buskness hit a solo homerun to left field, and Dylan Edinger had an RBI single knocking in Cody Holmes.  But that would be the last time MPB would score, as the Pirates scored three more in the third, five in the fourth and four in the fourth inning.  The winning pitcher was Trey Diegel, working two and two-thirds, allowing five runs, six hits, three K’s and two walks.  Hager worked 2 and a third, no runs and no hits.  Taking the loss was Junior Preston Martin, working three innings, eight runs, five hits and three strikeouts.  Senior Seth Horn worked two innings in relief of Martin.  MPB ends their season at 2-15 overall.  KC improved to 11-12.

Senior Cole Myhre worked a complete game, 2-hit shutout against the number two seeded Mustangs of MDP to help his team advance to the Region 3 Championship game on Wednesday afternoon.  Junior Cole Varnson and Freshman Jake Avdem had one hit each for the Mustangs.  Varnson took the loss, working six and two-thirds, nine strikeouts, three runs and five hits.  Junior Hunter Sand worked the last two outs in the top of the seventh inning as Varnson reached his pitch count limit at 120 pitches.  Freshman Bo Belquist had a big hit in the top of the fifth inning, taking an 0-2 pitch to shallow right field for a two-out two RBI single.  MDP dropped to 12-10, SNR improved to 11-6.

230pm – Sheyenne/NR vs. Winner of first game, championship

5pm – repeat championship, if SNR loses 230pm game
