CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Public School District lost 19 students from the beginning of the school year to the end.

Superintendent Josh Johnson isn’t sure why the district lost those students. He said the school district will lose an estimated $190,000 in funding being a majority of it is based on a per pupil funding formula set by the state of North Dakota for all school districts across the state.

The formula gives school districts $10,000 per student. Districts who increase students benefit greatly while those districts lose students lose funding.

The Valley City school district had a total head count of 1,088 students earlier this year and by the end of April of 2017 that number dropped to 1,069.

Graduation for the Valley City School District will be held Sunday, May 28 inside the Hi Liner Activity Center in Valley City.
