Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——-The Carrington Legion baseball team (Post 25) cruised to a 11-0 victory over Harwood (Post 297) in the quarterfinals of the class B Central Region tournament behind Kyle Leapaldt’s 5 inning no hitter. Leapaldt retired the side in order in every inning except the third frame. Bryan Bailly reached base on a throwing error to start the inning and Adam Dufner reached on the only walk allowed in the game by Leapaldt to put runners on first and third with 1 out for the Hogs. The only scoring threat quickly ended when Post 25 turned a 6-4-3 double play on Harwood’s leadoff batter Isaac Huessig to end the inning. Leapaldt struck out 3 batters and faced only 16 batters in his no hit performance. Post 25 scored 3 unearned runs in the second inning and Leapaldt scored the first run after drilling a double down the left field lin e and later scored on a throwing error. Leapaldt finished the game 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Trey Rosenau went 2-2 with 2 RBI and Jayden Shipman added 2 RBI going 1-3 with a double that 2 runs. Carrington improved to 23-6 with the win and Harwood dropped to 9-12 overall.
Hillsboro-CV (Blue Sox) defeated Mayville-Portland (Patriots) 3-1 in the other quarterfinal game behind Eli Nelson’s complete game 6 hitter. Nelson allowed just 1 unearned run in the 6th inning to the Patriots. The Blue Sox collected 3 hits in the entire game and they all came in a 2 run fourth inning that proved to be the difference in the game. Riley Pederson singled and scored on Eli Nelson’s RBI double. Nelson scored on Colton Anderson’s RBI single one batter later to make it 2-0. The Blue Sox added an unearned run in the 6th inning and led 3-0. H-CV improved to 21-8 overall on the year and Mayville-Portland dropped to 14-9 with the loss.
In the loser out round it was Gardner picking up it’s third win of the season with a 10-7 victory over Kidder County. The win moved Gardner to 3-16 on the season and Kidder finished the Central Region tournament 0-2 and 7-19 overall. Kidder is hosting the state tournament next week in Steele and will represent the Central Region as the number 2 seed.
New Rockford defeated Hope-Finley 10-0 in 6 innings to eliminate the Horn Frogs and ended their season at 4-21 overall. The Black Sox improved to 11-11 with the win.
