Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——-Braxton Hewitt was on the mound for Carrington in the semifinal game against the Hillsboro-CV Blue Sox and held the Sox to just 1 hit over 6 innings and Post 25 picked up another 10 run rule victory. Post 25 ended the game in the bottom of the sixth scoring 2 runs and capped off the 10-0 victory over the Blue Sox. Hewitt allowed a leadoff single to Colton Anderson in the fifth inning, the only hit of the night and the Blue Sox never had a runner reach second base in the game. Hewitt struck out 8 batters, allowed 2 walks in picking up the win. Hewitt also went 3-3 at the plate, score 2 runs, had 2 RBI, reached on a walk, and 2 bases. Lucas Geiszler went 3-3, scored 1 run and added 1 stolen base. Payton Smith, Alex Stusynski, and Drew Page all added 2 hits. Stusynski had 3 RBI and Page added 2 RBI. Post 25 improved to 24-6 on the year and H-CV dropped to 21-9 overall. Carrington advances to the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. and will 1 of 3 teams remaining (H-CV, Gardner, or Mayville-Portland). H-CV will play Friday night at 6:30 P.M. against the winner of Gardner/Mayville-Portland game.

Gardner (Express) and Mayville-Portland (M-P) both won 5-3 decisions in loser out play. Gardner starting pitcher Brennan Neva went all 7 innings and held the Harwood Hogs to just 3 runs, all coming in the third inning to tie the game. Neva struck out 6 batters and allowed 7 hits (4 in the third inning) to pick up the win. Neva also drove in 2 runs going 1-4. The Hogs were led by Matt Olheiser who went 3-4 at the plate and had 2 RBI. Harwood finished their season 9-13 overall and Gardner improved to 4-16. Gardner will play at 4:00 P.M. Friday versus Mayville-Portland in a loser out game.

Mayville-Portland (M-P) scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings and defeated the host team 5-3 to advance to Friday’s elimination game versus Gardner. M-P used three different pitchers in the game starting with Preston Edinger who held the Black Sox scoreless for three innings. Sawyer Satrom pitched the 4th and 5th innings allowing all 3 of the Black Sox runs in the 5th inning. Teddy Allmaras (2-4) drilled a 2 run triple to deep right center field that scored Bo Belquist and Kaleb Haley. Allmaras scored later on an RBI sacrifice fly from Tyrus Smith. That was all the offense for the Sox as Jackson Braaten pitched the final 2 innings for M-P and allowed just 1 baserunner in the sixth inning. That runner was erased on an inning ending 4-6-3 double play. The Black Sox finished the season 11-12 overall and M-P improved to 15-9 overall.

Friday’s action will start at 4:00 P.M. with Gardner taking on M-P and the winner will play H-CV at 6:30. Carrington will play the 6:30 winner at 1:00 P.M. Saturday for the championship. If Carrington would lose that game a second championship game would start 35 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Pregame will start Friday at 3:45 and Saturday at 12:45.
