N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)- The Viking volleyball team dropped a tough four-set match Tuesday night at NCAA Division II opponent University of Mary.

The Marauders picked up the victory on their home court by scores of 25-20, 25-27, 25-22, 25-19.

Valley City State drops to 4-5 overall. University of Mary improves to 3-2.

Megan Johnson had 11 kills in the match to lead Valley City’s attack. Clarissa Olson and Paige Benson each tallied seven kills. Leah Ruter had 26 assists, and both Olson and Hailie Wilds had two service aces. Wilds led the team with 13 digs.

Freshman Nissa Johnson tallied six block assists on the night, part of nine team blocks by VCSU.

The Marauders outhit the Vikings, .161 to .107. Lauren Randall led the Mary attack with 17 kills, including the 1,000th kill of her career.

Valley City State now shifts its focus to Wednesday night when the Vikings host Concordia-Moorhead at 7 p.m. It is the home opener for VCSU at Graichen Gymnasium.
