MADISON, S.D. (PlayNorthStar.com)- VCSU basketball took home both North Star Athletic Association Player of The Week Awards. Senior Lexi Lennon was selected as women’s play of the week while senior Austin Dunbar was the men’s player of the week. After playing in The Tabor Classic this past weekend, The Vikings return to NSAA play this weekend with games at Bellevue and Dakota State.

Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week

Lexi Lennon – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’8″ – Senior – Guard – West Fargo, N.D. – Lennon posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists in No. 19-ranked Valley City State’s (N.D.) 78-61 victory over Sterling (Kan.).  She also had 16 points and 6 rebounds, despite a 74-70 overtime loss at No. 17 Tabor (Kan.).  For the week, Lennon shot 62.5 percent from the field (15-of-24) including 6-of-9 from the 3-point line.  She averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.

North Star Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week
Austin Dunbar – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’5″ – Senior – Forward – Dolton, Ill. – Dunbar posted back-to-back double-doubles as Valley City State (N.D.) earned a pair of victories in the Tabor (Kan.) Classic.  He scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in VCSU’s 71-66 victory over host-team Tabor.  He followed up with 10 points and 11 rebounds in Vikings’ 85-75 win over Sterling (Kan.).  For the week, Dunbar shot 56.5 percent from the field (13-of-23) and converted 5-of-9 free-throws.  He averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.  He also averaged 2.0 assists per game.
