JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – No one was hurt when an oversized semi load struck the I-94 Overpass near Jamestown Thursday.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that 48 year-old Robert McBride was transporting an oversized air-cooled heat exchanger from Oklahoma to Calgary, Alberta when he failed to follow the designated route noted on an oversize load.
McBride noticed the overpass was low and slowed to approximately 15 mph before lodging the oversized load under the Exit 257 overpass. A tow truck was called to pull the load out from under the overpass. The truck and trailer were then backed one mile to Highway 281.
There was minimal damage to to the top of the load and underside of the overpass. McBride was charged with violating the conditions of a permit. Exit 257 was shut down for one hour while DOT inspected the overpass.
The crash remains under investigation.
