JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Members of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) are working on bringing the count of preventable road fatalities to zero.

Vision Zero is a national road traffic safety project that aims to achieve a highway system with no fatalities or serious injuries involving road traffic. The initiative was introduced earlier this year by the NDDOT.

NDDOT Information Specialist Ashlee Doan says most deaths that happen in North Dakota crashes are preventable, making Vision Zero a very important safety initiative.

Lauren Roscoe is a member of SADD and was named the 2017 SADD Student of the Year by Governor Doug Burgum. She says the organization has several programs focused on wearing a seat belt at all times.

Roscoe says they do a lot of these programs during the month of September, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
