NAPOLEON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Oakes High Football team had a statement win in their quarterfinal matchup against Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter Saturday in the 9-Man quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
For the first time ever, the Tornadoes defeated the Imperials on the gridiron, and punched a ticket to the State semifinals in the process, their first since 1983, after holding off a late rally from NGS 42-34.
Oakes’ Logan Sell amassed three rushing touchdowns of 93, 61 and 52 yards, while Garrett Meehl returned a punt 52 yards for a score. The Imperial’s Nathan Weigel had three rushing scores in the defeat.
Oakes heads to Thompson to face the Tommies on Saturday, November 3. The Tommies defeated Oakes in the opening round of the 2017 post-season. Coverage on The Tornado KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts one half-hour before the scheduled kickoff.
