Muriel Persons, age 88, of Valley City, ND, died Tuesday, April 24th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 1st at the Congregational United Church of Christ Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Tuesday morning. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City, ND.
Muriel Ruth Stromberg, and her twin sister Marion, the daughters of Carl and Gertrude (Diethert) Stromberg, were born March 9, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN. Muriel grew up and graduated from High School in Minneapolis. After her graduation, she worked for the Dayton’s Department Store in Minneapolis. On June 24, 1944 she married the love of her life, James L. Persons in Alliance, NE. After Jim’s discharge from the Army in 1945, they lived in Minneapolis, MN for a time until moving to the family farm in Valley City in 1947. The couple lived and farmed in the Valley City area until Jim’s death in 2003. Muriel was a sweet soul. She was a hard working farm wife that possessed a great sense of humor. She found many ways to spend time with her family and friends including playing cards, bingo, board games, casinos, traveling and reading. Her kitchen was always open for meals, desserts or just a cup of coffee. Muriel was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ Church, Women’s Fellowship, VFW Auxiliary and the Getchell Homemakers Club. Muriel loved life and her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Muriel is survived by two sons, James Persons, Jr., Valley City, ND and Robert Persons, Glasgow, MT; two daughters, Kathleen (Gary) Riedman and Deb Beck, all Valley City, ND; one daughter in law, Jeanette Persons, Lisbon, ND; 9 grandchildren, Kim (Tom) Noah, Kari (Ivan) Clements, Kasey (Jon) Skalicky, Molly (Brent) Dean, Emily Beck, Dan (MaryLou) Persons, Andi Persons, Jamie Persons and Jeff (Tehryn) Persons; 15 Great-grandchildren, Ellie, Sara and Drew Noah; Aidan and Samuel Clements; Jacob Riedman; Clara and Connor Dean; Avery Robinson and Kaden Fasula; Jeffrey, Jada, Jordyn, Kelsey and Ethan Persons; one brother-in-law, Raleigh Farrell; one sister-in-law, Ruby Persons; numerous nieces and nephews and a wealth of friends.
Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters, Dorothy Stromberg, Mildred Pearson, Helen Brown and her twin sister, Marion Farrell.
