JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Over 200 middle school students in the area will get six hours of personal finance training and hands-on experience during the “Real World” Financial Literacy Camp in Jamestown.
Students will receive six lessons on managing money and will then be assigned a mock life scenario with a job and a family. They’ll then be “sent out to live their life in the ‘Real World City’ where 23 local vendors have set up shop.
“Based on their individually assigned daily lives, students must decide how to meet their family’s needs while staying within their budget,” the ND Jump$start Coalition states. “Then, to end the day with some excitement, we will be giving away some door prizes from businesses in the area.”
The “Real World” Financial Literacy Camp is sponsored by ND Jump$tart Coalition and is a free learning event thanks to the donations and free-will offerings of local community businesses and agencies, such as, the North Dakota Securities Department.
“Learning about personal finance at a young age is key to making smart decisions on money matters throughout all life stages,” says Karen Tyler, Commissioner of North Dakota Securities Department. “We want to equip our students with the tools and the knowledge to develop healthy saving and spending habits before they bring home their first paycheck.”
The event will be held at the Jamestown Civic Center on Thursday, March 14th. For more information, contact Kayla Curtis 605-521-9626 or Chelsey Francis 406-694-6146.
