JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Ellendale and Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier will join Carrington and district champions LaMoure/Litchville-Marion in the Region 3 tournament starting next week.
Here are the results from Monday night.
Region Qualifier: Ellendale 67, Barnes County North 53
The Cardinals are onto the Region 3 tournament after their 14 point victory over Barnes County North.
Ellendale outscored BCN in 3 of the 4 quarters (the two teams tied in the 3rd quarter). It was a steady attack on the boards for the Cardinals lead by Scott Wagner who finished with a monstrous double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Wagner also shot 9 of 10 at the free throw line.
Tristin Roaldson lead the Bison with 13 points.
After the win, Ellendale will be the 3 seed out of District 5 in the Region tournament.
Region Qualifier: Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 57, Oakes 51 
For the second time this season, EKM defeated Oakes and this time it was to advance to the Region tournament.
It was a story of two halves for the Oakes offense. In the first half, the Tornadoes shot 46.4% from the field, but in the 2nd half 35.1%. EKM went on a 20-5 run in the 2nd half to overcome a 9 point deficit and defeat the Tornadoes.
EKM’s leading scorers were Alex Huber and Isaac Huber with 13 points each. Oakes was lead by Garret Meehl with 14 points.
Championship: LaMoure/Litchville-Marion 41, Carrington 37
Shay Ness hit one of two free throws with 1:41 remaining in the fourth quarter to break a 37-37 tie. Alex Klever would add two more 19 seconds later and Rory Gentzkow sealed it with another with 7.9 seconds remaining lifting the Loboes to their first District title since 2014.
The Loboes held the Cardinals to six field goals and 29 percent shooting in the second half.
Loboe Head Coach Darren Thielges says both teams played great defense.
 

 
Shay Ness led LLM with 14 points and six rebounds. Jamison Kramer had nine points and six boards and Alex Klever added eight points, two assists and three steals.
Theiges says it was a team effort.
 

 
McCoy VandeHoven led the Cardinals with eight points and added five rebounds. Trey Rosenau had seven points and nine rebounds while Seth Nelson had six points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Carrington falls to 14-8 while LaMoure/Litchville-Marion wins its 14th game in a row and improves to 17-3.
Thieges says no matter who they play in the region 3 opener on next Monday, his team needs to be ready.
 

 
The District 6 tournament wraps up tonight with Kidder County playing Medina-Pingree-Buchanan in one region qualifier. Linton/HMB and South Border will play the other qualifier while Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter face Strasburg-Zeeland in the Championship.
