(NewsDakota.com) – A public input meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night in Jamestown regarding the recently initiated James River Feasibility Study.
The study is a joint effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and James River Joint Water Resources District. The purpose of the study is to identify the potential for developing cost-effective flood control solutions and to address other flooding issues. The James River watershed experienced major flooding in both 2009 and 2011.
Tuesday night’s meeting in Jamestown is the first of four public meetings in communities along the James River in North Dakota. Meetings will also be held in Carrington, LaMoure and Oakes this week.
All meetings run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a brief opening presentation followed by a workshop period.
“During the workshop period, the cooperating agencies will provide the public with a study overview and then gather their input on James River flooding problems and associated costs in terms of damages, road closures, etc.,” said Jeff Greenwald, project manager with the Corps of Engineers. “The Corps and the James River Joint Water Resources District will also discuss and seek public input on environmental considerations and available structural and non-structural flood risk management measures.”

Tuesday, June 12: Jamestown – City Hall
Wednesday, June 13: Carrington – City Library
