FORKS (NewsDakota.com) – After dropping set one 25-12 Thursday night in Grand Forks, things looked bleak for the Hi-Liner volleyball squad.
How quickly things can change.
Behind a strong defense and solid offense, Valley City rallied to win the next three sets and earned two crucial points in the EDC standings with a 12-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 win over Grand Forks Central.
Head coach Katy Van Dyke credited her team’s defense for the turning the match around.
Up 2-1 in sets, Valley City started slow in set four and fell behind 12-3. But the Hi-Liners rallied quickly, ripping off 18 of the next 22 points to build a 21-16 lead en route to the 25-23 victory.
The win vaults Valley City into a tie for sixth place in the EDC standings at 3-6 in conference play. The sixth spot avoids a play-in match for the EDC Tournament. Fargo South is also 3-6, Wahpeton is 2-6 and Central is 3-8.
Valley City improves its record to 8-10 overall. The Hi-Liners are in action again Saturday at a tournament in Lisbon. They’ll restart EDC play on Tuesday with a 1-point match at Devils Lake (2-14, 0-13 EDC). Valley City swept Devils Lake earlier this season.
