JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Great Plains Housing Authority (GPHA) is hopeful the ongoing housing study will give them and other agencies the tools to address the housing shortage experienced regionally.
Funded through Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act money, The South Central Dakota Regional Council used the funds to hired Maxfield Research & Consulting to complete the study.
The study will take U.S. Census Data and analyze a nine county area including Barnes, Dickey, Foster, Griggs, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh, Stutsman and Wells counites.
GPHA Executive Director David Klein says there will be some public comments and surveys in the next couple of months to explore some of these needs that are being seen.
Maxfield had earlier conducted a similar study in 2013, which Klein says returned a “wealth of information.” 8 years later, the hope is there will be even more data to sift through to better understand the housing issues being seen in Region 6.
Klein says the pandemic has also affected the housing market in a variety of ways.
The study will interview city leaders, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, property managers, real estate agents, developers, and others who may be able provide some data.
Once completed, the study will be compiled into a report and distributed to leaders in the Spring of 2022. The findings will be a “guidebook” to help spur growth in the housing market and address housing needs in the region.
