(NewsDakota)- There were playoff implications on the line for both teams heading into the final regular season contest at Ernie Gates Field. Jamestown and Minot came in, despite very different overall records, with a chance at the No. 3 in the West Region.
When the game was over Minot walked away with a 19-0 win and the No. 3-seed in the WDA. The rain and cold made it a tough night to pass the football, so it was the ground game of the Magicians that put away Jamestown.
Minot struck on their opening drive, a 66-yard touchdown run by Junior QB Alex Yanosko. It was his longest run of a 130-yard day.
Later in the first quarter the Magicians hit pay-dirt again with a two-yard touchdown run by Brady Lampert, making it 13-0. The Blue Jays’ Taylor Orr returned the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown, but it was called back on a holding penalty. That was as close as the Jays got the end zone.
Lampert, who had 110 yards of his 208 in the third quarter, scored again on a 6-yard run in the late 3rd.
The Magicians finished with 434 yards of total offense, all but 52 coming on the ground. Minot had five trips in the red zone and only came away with two touchdowns.
Anthony Cook ended with 7 carries for 30 yards, no carries in the second half. Matt Grounds was 7 0f 25 for 89 yards, his receivers dropped six passes in the rain, including four by the normally reliable hands of C.J. Soulis.
Jamestown ends their first season under new Head Coach Tim Fletcher at 2-7 (2-4).
Minot with the three-seed will join Bismarck High, Century and Dickinson in the playoffs representing the West.
