N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Saturday’s Stutsman County Invitational Boys Basketball Championship will pin the top-seeded Carrington Cardinals against the No. 3 seed Napoleon Imperials after both teams were victorious in their semifinal matchups Friday night.
Led by double-digit scoring performances from four of five starters, Carrington dominated Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal for all four quarters on their way to a 75-21 thrashing of the Rebels.
Austin Johnson led all scorers in the game with 14 points. The Cardinals defense was stout as well, forcing 42 Rebels turnovers.
In the other championship bracket semifinal, a last-second heave of a 3-pointer from Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels center Connor Entzi fell just short and the Napoleon Imperials escaped with a 44-42 win.
Napoleon was led by 12 points and 4 rebounds from Trent Fettig in addition to 11 points from brother Bryce.
Despite losing the turnover and rebounding battles to the Rebels, the Imperials held EKM to just 31.4 percent shooting from the field.
In the consolation ladder, Ellendale defeated Midkota 59-44 and Kidder County squeaked by Central Prairie 56-54. The Mustangs and Firebirds will start things off at 2 p.m. Saturday with the 7th place game, which will then be followed by the Cardinals and Pirates as they will play for 5th place at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The 3rd place game between PBK and EKM is set for approximately 5 p.m., and the championship will be the nightcap at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Coverage begins on Ted 98.3 and 102.7 FM beginning with pregame at 1:45 p.m.
