N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Boys Basketball Tourney concluded on Saturday, December 15th with 4 games. Region 4 standout Carrington took home the championship while Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier took third place. Kidder County are the Consolation Champs and Central Prairie took seventh. Head Coach Kevin Strobel, of the Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier Rebels, took home his second consecutive coaches award. The EKM Rebels also won the free throw award, Central Prairie won the Sportsmanship Award.
The following players were awarded the All Stutsman Team:
Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier – Senior Logan Hanson
Kidder County – Sophomore Ryan Sand
Pingree/Buchanan/Kensal – Senior Shawn Baker
Midkota – Senior Austin Monson
Central Prairie – Junior Alex Eissinger
Ellendale – Sophomore Adam White
Napoleon – Junior Trent Fettig, Senior Grant Weigel
Carrington – Sophomore Seth Abaurrea, Senior Scott Burnham, Senior Austin Johnson
Championship: Carrington 74, Napoleon 46
The Cardinals forced the Imperials to 36 turnovers and took home the 2012 Stutsman County Championship. Carrington was led by Senior Forward Austin Johnson with 22 points including a dunk. Sophomore Seth Abaurrea had 15 points and six assists. The 5-0 Cards were favored to win the Tournament and are the number eight team in the state right now. Carrington’s full court defense forced a total of 107 turnovers against their opponents during the three day tourney.
Napoleon was led by Junior Trent Fettig with 16 points, the Imperials fall to 3-2.
3rd place game – Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 49, Pingree/Buchanan/Kensal 37
In the battle of Rebels, Senior forward JR Perleberg of Pingree/Buchanan/Kensal scored 14 points but it wasn’t enough as Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier took home third place. EKM was led by Freshman Connor Entzi with 11 points, followed by Senior Logan Hanson with 10 points. Senior Jordan Nitschke had five assists and six steals for EKM.
5th Place Game – Kidder County 60, Ellendale 46
Stuffing the stat sheet and leading the way for his Pirates teammates, Jordan Leier had 19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals as Kidder County defeated Ellendale 60-46.
Zach Six added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
In a losing effort, Cardinals guard Shawn Hofer had 22 points and 4 rebounds.
7th Place Game – Central Prairie 56, Midkota 49
Central Prairie picked up its first win on the season with a 56-49 win over Midkota.
The Firebirds were led by 22 points from Alex Eissinger, who converted on 5 of 8 three-pointers in the game.
The Mustangs fall to 0-6 with the loss. They were led in scoring by Dalton Ehlers, who had 14 points, including 4 three-pointers.
Midkota jumped out to a 9-0 lead early.
