(NewsDakota.com) The winless skid continued for the Oakes High School basketball teams on Tuesday night as the Britton-Hecla South Dakota Braves swept the Tornadoes in a double header.

Girls: Britton-Hecla 48 Oakes 46

In the girls game, the Tornadoes rallied from a six point deficit at halftime, and outscored the Braves 17-6 in the third quarter; including a 6-0 run to start the quarter. However, the Braves outscored the Tornadoes 15-9 in the final eight minutes, and held off a last second possession by Oakes to tie or take the lead.

Shelby Elsen lead the Braves with 20 points, Oakes was lead in scoring by Nicole Warren with 25.

Boys: Britton-Hecla 70 Oakes 53

Britton’s Dallas Goedert dominated the glass and the low post, and lead his team in scoring with 21 points to keep the Oakes boys winless on the season. Oakes was within striking distance at half, only down by nine, but that gap increased to 20 by the end of the third quarter.

For the second consecutive game, the Tornadoes had Ethan Zetocha lead them in scoring; this time with 17.

With the losses, the Oakes girls are 0-2, and the boys are 0-4. Next up for both teams is a doubleheader at Ellendale on Friday night, with coverage on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com
