N.D. (NewsDakota.com) House Majority Leader Al Carlson says he’s not surprised that there’s a move at the Capitol to buyout the contract of Higher Education System Chancellor Ham Shirvani. Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Tony Grindberg of Fargo is behind it. Carlson says Grindberg was moved to take action.
U-N-D President Robert Kelley questioned a plan from the Higher Education board to provide office space for Shirvani at a new building on the U-N-D campus. Shirvani’s future could come to a head on Thursday during a hearing on the college and university system budget. Shirvani says he’s surprised and shocked. He says he isn’t aware of any tension between him, school presidents or lawmakers. He’s been on the job less than a year.
