JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Blue Jay softball opened its 2025 season with two wins Friday, defeating Hillsboro-Central Valley 4-2 and Sheyenne 15-5 inside the Nelson Family Bubble at the University of Jamestown.

Avery Graves capped a four-run third inning rally for Jamestown with a three-run single and Maddie Hoff pitched a two-hitter and struck out 15 as the Blue Jays opened their season with a victory.

Down 1-0, Jamestown started the third-inning rally with a home run by Bryn Sorenson. Marissa Moltzen, Violet Bohl and Jordan Mikkelson drew walks before Graves’ go-ahead hit.

Hillsboro-Central Valley had taken the lead in the top of the third on a solo home run by Peyton Quam. Kailee Kittleson hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth for the Burros’ other run.

Hoff had strikeouts in six of the seven innings and struck out three in the same inning three times.

Graves drove in five more runs in the first two innings and the Blue Jays rapped out 16 hits to back Jaelyn Sloan, who pitched a complete game five-hitter.

Graves hit a three-run home run in the first inning and a two-run double in a three-run second.

Marissa Moltzen stole home for the first run of the Blue Jays’ second inning.

Megan Jarrett hit an RBI single, Sloan had an RBI fielder’s choice and Brooke Jackson delivered an RBI single in a five-run fourth inning.

As JHS scored four more in the fifth inning, Jarrett notched another RBI single, and Sloan drove in a run while reaching on an error.

Sloan struck out six and walked five for the win in the circle.

Jamestown will host Mandan Tuesday in the WDA opener. Coverage will begin Tuesday at 4:15 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
