Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – James Throener came to play against Fairmount on July 2nd as he struck out 9 and gave up a lone hit to help lead Oakes to a 6-0 victory.
Throener got started early and was on a roll right away striking out 5 in the first 3 innings as they’d face the minimum through 5 innings of play. Fairmount wouldn’t get a hit till the 4th inning of play but the inning would end in a 6-3-5 double play. Oakes on the other hand scored 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors in the first inning before slowing down for the middle portion of the game as Travis Peterson would settle down in the middle portion of the game giving up only 2 hits in the middle innings. Oakes would score 2 more runs in the 5th inning off of 3 hits and 1 error. Oakes would also get the bases loaded with only 1 out before Peterson got the last two outs. Fairmount’s best opportunity would be the 6th where they’d get 2 men on with 1 out via walks and even get bases loaded after a hit batter with 2 outs before a grounder to short ended the threat. Oakes would score 1 more run in the 6th inning off of a couple wild pitches to take a 6-0 lead. Throener would complete the 1 hit complete game shutout with a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th to win 6-0.
The winning pitcher was James Throener (7.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 9 K). The losing pitcher was Travis Peterson (5.1 IP, 8 H, 5 BB, 9 K, 6 R, 5 ER) with Jackson Steffens (.2 IP, 1 K) relieving him.
