Dennis O. Stillings, 82, of Valley City, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2025, at Eventide in Jamestown, ND.

Dennis Otto Stillings was born on October 30, 1942, to Harlow and Ruth Stillings. He spent his early youth in Valley City before his family relocated to Hutchinson, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Minnesota.

Dennis served as the director of the Bakken Library in Minneapolis for many years. During his time in Minneapolis, he founded and directed the Archaeus Project Foundation, a venture he continued after relocating to Hawaii. Upon retirement, Dennis returned to Valley City, drawn back by his love of the rivers and hills that shaped his early life.

He is survived by his wife, Cathryn Stillings of Valley City; his son, Reid (Pam) Stillings of Austin, TX; his daughters, Megan Duke of Minneapolis and Renee (John) Huhs of Woodside, CA; and grandchildren, Jack Huhs and Lisa Huhs.
