GWINNER (NewsDakota)- The brilliance of sports is that when you walk into a venue, you never know what could happen. And for those who entered North Sargent on Friday night, they’ve likely never seen a game quite like that one.
Carrington was a minus-5 in the turnover margin, but behind a defense that allowed one first down and ten total yards, the Cardinals defeated the Sargent County Bulldogs 14-0 on Friday for their first shutout win since 2024.
It was a difficult start for Carrington (1-1), who suffered two early fumbles, before they finally found their footing in the second quarter on a 74-yard drive that was capped by a six yard touchdown run by Tate Wolsky, who also ran in the conversion and it was 8-0 at the half.
In the latter stages of the third quarter, McKade Zink raced in from 21 yards to finish off a short 28 yard drive and extend to a 14-0 lead. Zink finished with 118 yards on 16 carries. For the game, Carrington ran for 239 yards on 45 carries.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog (0-2) offense earned a first down on their opening possession and did not gain another one all night as Carrington posted their first shutout since the 2024 season opener, a 34-0 win over Southern McLean.
The Cardinals open Region 2 play on Friday night by hosting the Grafton Spoilers. Coverage on KDAK The Cardinal & KDAK The Cardinal on YouTube begins at 6pm.
