CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- On a night where Carrington head coach Kadyn Mehring acknowledged they were not at their best, the Cardinals fought through it anyway.

Harper Kollman and Calleigh Hewitt combined for 27 kills and the fifth-ranked Cards won their eighth straight with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19) win over the Devils Lake Firebirds on Tuesday night inside the East Gym.

The first set saw nine ties as the teams went back-and-forth before Carrington (10-1, 4-0) jumped out to an 18-14 lead.  But Devils Lake (7-6, 0-4) closed the set on an 11-2 run and for the third time this season, Carrington trailed by a set to none.

The second set was a dominant one for the Cards, with Lauren Hendrickson and Journey Peltier each having big runs on serve to level the match.  And Carrington took the third set behind the hitting of Kollman and Maara Kutz, who had seven kills on the night.

The Fourth set began with Carrington scoring five of the first six points and never looking back in remaining unbeaten in Region 2 play.

The Cardinals are back in action on Thursday night, hosting Harvey/Wells County with coverage beginning at 6:45pm on KDAK The Cardinal & KDAK The Cardinal on YouTube.
