DES LACS BURLINGTON (NewsDakota)- Two tournaments, two trophies for the Carrington Cardinals and first-year head coach Kadyn Mehring.

The Cardinals (18-3) swept aside (RVA) Central Cass 25-17, 25-21 to win the prestigious Laker Invite in Des Lacs Burlington in another impressive weekend of tournament volleyball.

POOL D:

Carrington def. Trenton 2-0 (25-10, 25-16)

The Cards got eighteen assists from Aniston Hoornaert and six kills from Harper Kollman in defeating their Class B opponent in straight sets.

Carrington def. Our Redeemer’s 2-0 (25-15, 25-14)

Hoornaert had twenty more assists and libero Journey Peltier had eleven digs as the Cards swept past the Knights.

Carrington and Linton-HMB split 1-1 (25-17, 21-25)

Eighteen more assists from Hoornaert and thirteen digs from Kollman earned Carrington the bonus point against the top-ranked team in Class B

Carrington and May Port-CG split 1-1 (22-25, 25-23)

The Cardinals locked up the top seed in Pool D as Marah Johnson had eighteen digs and Lauren Hendrickson added thirteen of her own.  Hoornaert had twenty more assists.

Quarterfinal: Carrington def. South Prairie-Max 2-1 (25-17, 18-25, 15-5)

22 assists from Hoornaert and sixteen digs from Kollman led the way as the Cardinals beat the top-five ranked Royals to advance.

Semifinal: Carrington def. Grafton 2-1 (19-25, 27-25, 15-10)

24 assists from Hoornaert, 22 digs from Kollman and ten kills from Maara Kutz helped the Cards rally from a set down to beat Grafton for a third time this season.

Championship: Carrington def. Central Cass 2-0 (25-17, 25-21)

23 more assists for Hoornaert plus fourteen digs from Peltier and ten kills from Kollman lifted the Cardinals to the tournament championship.
