NSIC coaches generally think that the first venture for Jamestown Jimmies basketball in the league won’t be easy.
In the preseason coaches polls, released Thursday, the Jimmie women were picked 15th in the 16-team league and the Jamestown men were chosen 14th.
The Jimmie women will be led by senior guard Kate Cordes, who is 12th on the program’s all-time scoring list, and by sophomore forward Jessika Lofstrom, who averaged 8.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in just over 23 minutes a game last season and was chosen by Head Coach Thad Sankey as the Jimmies’ player to watch.
Anthony Walters was selected by Head Coach Casey Bruggeman as the men’s player to watch. Walters, a senior, averaged 14 points a game in his first season as a Jimmie and is the leading returning scorer from last season.
The Jimmie women will open against Dickinson State on Friday, November 14 at Harold Newman Arena. Jamestown’s men will play on that same day against Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma. NSIC play will start on Tuesday, November 25 at Northern State.
