JAMESTOWN – Number one-ranked UNLV took a 4-0 lead Wednesday and cruised to a 6-2 victory over the sixth-ranked Jamestown Jimmies ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey at Wilson Arena.

Joseph Carollo and Asher Wites scored just 1:03 apart late in the first period to give the Rebels (7-3-0-0) a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes.

A power play goal by Caleb Strong 8:06 into the second period made the UNLV lead 3-0.  Jaxsen Wyatt scored only 59 seconds after that for the Rebels.

Jamestown (8-4-1-0) used a power play goal by Carter Johnson, his sixth this season, to break the shutout at 10:02 of the second and UJ was down 4-1 after two periods.  Marcus Fritel assisted.

At 13:38 of the third period, Raymond Warrack scored his second for the Jimmies, set up by Griffin Bourassa and Johnson.  But Luke Backel answered for UNLV with five minutes left and a power play goal by Tristan Rand at 17:04 provided the final margin.

UNLV outshot Jamestown 29-24.  The Rebels were 2-for-3 on the power play while the Jimmies were 1-for-2.  UJ goalie Brandon Weare made 23 saves.

UNLV and Jamestown will play again on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at Wilson Arena.
