
FARGO – Though Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Basketball couldn’t hold off NDSU, they may have found quite a bit of depth.
North Dakota State defeated Jamestown Wednesday 82-67 at the Scheels Center.
As the Jimmies (2-2) were playing their fourth game in six days, reserves saw more time than usual in the second half, and among those who flourished was freshman guard Ford Okehi, who scored 16 points with six assists and three steals. Also, Henry Meyer scored nine and Zeke Austin had eight points with five rebounds. Anthony Walters, one of the Jimmie starters, scored 12 points.
Overall, Jamestown made 12 three-pointers.
Markhi Strickland led three double-figure scorers for NDSU (4-2) with 22 points and five rebounds. Noah Feddersen scored 20. Trevian Carson had 16 with eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.
For 31 seconds in the first half, Jamestown held the lead against their Division I opponent and trailed just 41-36 at halftime, despite turning the ball over 15 times in the first half.
The Bison were still up just four at 48-44 when Meyer hit a layup with 14:35 remaining. After that, NDSU embarked on an 11-3 run with Feddersen hitting four free throws, a jumper and a dunk. Then, the Bison cruised the rest of the way, leading by as much as 19 points.
The next game for the Jimmie men will be their first-ever NSIC game against Northern State on Tuesday in Aberdeen, South Dakota as part of a doubleheader where the UJ and NSU women will play first. Coverage will begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
