VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Girls Hi-Liner Wrestler of the Week for the first week of wrestling ending on November 23, 2025 is Emma Trapp. Emma is a 7th grader wrestling in the 100lb weight class for the Hi-Liner Girls Wrestling Team.
Emma started her Hi-Liner wrestling career with a bang on November 22, 2025 by pinning the first opponent she ever faced, Naya Falcon, an 11th grader from Turtle Mountain. Emma wrestled 6 matches on the day (which is very rare, and is the maximum number of a matches that is allowed to be wrestled in a 1-day high school event). She finished 5-1, and all 5 of her wins came by pin.
The highlight of her tournament, came in her match for 3rd and 4th place. She was facing Grace Inglish from Carrington. Emma lost her 2nd round match to Inglish, which meant facing her again was a chance for redemption. With time running out in the 3rd Period, and trailing by a score of 8-0, Emma was in need of a “home run” move to be able to pull this off. Emma was desperately trying to get her opponent to the mat so that she could attempt her signature pinning move, and it just wasn’t happening. With 40 seconds left in the match, with both wrestlers still on their feet, Emma hit her move, called a twister. It’s a difficult position to hit a twister from, but she did it and secured the pin with just 19 seconds left in the match. In talking with Emma after the match, she said “I knew time was running out, I was behind by 8 points and I needed to try something, even if it wasn’t very likely I was going to get it. I had to try it”. Coaches note: That mat and situational awareness is something that is often uncommon across all age groups. A 7th grader that has that awareness, in her first varsity tournament ever, is extremely rare.
