JAMESTOWN – Another astounding comeback helped Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Basketball to a 98-94 triple overtime win Thursday against Bemidji State at Harold Newman Arena.  The Bemidji State women then stopped the Jimmies 77-61.

Rallying from 11 points down to force overtime, Jamestown (4-6, 2-2 NSIC) found themselves down 89-80 in the second overtime before ending the game on an 18-5 run.

Cole Glasgow hit a three-pointer to cut the lead for Bemidji State (4-5, 2-2) to 89-83 with 2:06 left in the second extra five-minute session. Owen Hektner dropped in a three 50 seconds later, then Glasgow followed a Davis Walker miss with 34 seconds to go and Bemidji State led only 89-88. Dominic Fairbanks split two free throws for the Beavers with 24 seconds to go, then Anthony Walters hit a tying layup with 10 seconds left. Both teams then had chances to win, but Nathan Fenske missed a jumper with three seconds to go for Bemidji State and Walker missed a winning three-pointer at the buzzer for Jamestown.

Fouled while shooting a three-pointer, Walker hit two of the three free throws 45 seconds into the third overtime. Walters sank a jumper with 3:14 left and Jamestown was up 94-90. Fairbanks hit a jumper with 2:43 left, but Walters restored the four-point Jamestown lead with 2:19 left with two free throws. The Beavers’ John Pecarich sank a paint jumper with 1:57 left and UJ led 96-94. Pecarich shortly after missed a jumper and a three-pointer and Eddie Jallow Hedqvist missed another three and two Hektner free throws gave the Jimmies their last points with 14 seconds to go.

Hektner scored a career-high 26 points and had his first double-double as a Jimmie with 11 rebounds. Walters tallied 22 with seven rebounds and five assists. Walker established a career-high with 18 points.

Pecarich led Bemidji State with 32 points and seven rebounds and Hedqvist had 26.

Wonen: Bemidji St. 77, Jamestown 61
A solid offensive combination of Evyn Eppinga and Kassandra Caron for Bemidji State (6-2, 2-2 NSIC), plus 25 turnovers by Jamestown (4-4, 2-2), made the difference.

Eppinga scored a career-high 28 points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Caron dropped in 27 with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Jamestown, after holding Bemidji State to nine points in the second quarter, had a 33-32 halftime lead. But in every other quarter, Bemidji State scored at least 21 points. Also, the Beavers outpaced the Jimmies in points off turnovers 31-6.

Daviney Dreckman led UJ with 15 points. Jessika Lofstrom had her second double-double as a Jimmie with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

While Bemidji State shot 46 percent from the floor, Jamestown managed only 38 percent and just 28 percent in the second half.
