Game One: Valley City 58, Northern Cass 34
It was all Katie Burchill in the Hi-Liners’ blowout semifinal win, as she finished with a game-high 29 points and the Jaguars were unable to find an answer for her post game. Maddy Frieze, Dacota Potratz and Kailee Nielson combined for 23 points, with Frieze knocking down a pair of 3-pointers, Potratz providing efficient offense and stellar defense, and Nielson once again giving quality minutes off the bench.
For the Jaguars, one of the lone bright spots was the play of Kadence Husar, as the eighth grader led her team with seven points and provided a spark in the second half. Holding a 41-12 lead at the break, the Hi-Liners cruised the rest of the way, playing out the string until the final horn.
Game Two: LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 57, Maple River 52
The second semifinal was a much more competitive matchup between two of the top-ranked teams in Class B, as the LaMoure-Litchville/Marion Loboes outlasted the Maple River Raiders to advance to the championship game against Valley City. The Loboes returned four double-digit scorers, and that balance paved the way to an early 18-14 lead after one.
Maple River’s all-state candidate Violet Richman found her rhythm in the second quarter, scoring 10 points as the Raiders’ defense held L-L-M to just eight in the period to take a 31-26 halftime lead. But in the third, Lobo standout Onika Lesko sparked the comeback with eight points of her own, while Maple River struggled to find consistent offense outside of Richman.
The Loboes held a one-point lead entering the fourth, and early on little separated the two teams. That changed when Norah DelaBarre took over, pulling down rebound after rebound on her way to a double-double and helping L-L-M pull away late to secure the win.
