
CROOKSTON, MN – At the moment, the trend for Jamestown Jimmie Men’s Basketball continues to be up. It’s still the opposite for the Jimmie women.
The Jimmie men rallied from nine points down Thursday to defeat Minnesota Crookston 78-71 at Gary Senske Court at Lysaker Gymnasium, UJ’s fourth straight win. Then, the Jimmie women lost for the third straight game, 99-70 to UMC.
Men: Jamestown 78, Minnesota Crookston 71
Reigning NSIC North Division Player of the Week Anthony Walters scored 22 points with four three-pointers, eight rebounds and two blocked shots as Jamestown (6-6, 4-2 NSIC) won after trailing at halftime for the fourth time this season. Thomas Diew played a sparkling game off the bench with 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Owen Hektner scored 12 with three three-pointers.
Minnesota Crookston (1-10, 0-6) led by nine twice in the first half before their lead was cut to 37-33 at halftime.
After two earlier chances to have the lead, the Jimmies grabbed it for the first time, 56-55, on a Cole Glasgow layup with 11:13 to play. Spencer Swenson gave the Eagles their last lead at 61-60 on a layup with 10:04 left. Jamestown then forged a 14-4 run, with Walters scoring the last six points of it. The Jimmies led by as much as 12 when Walters hit his fourth three-pointer with 2:25 left.
Swenson led UMC with 19 points. Donez Lindsey scored 17.
Women: Minnesota Crookston 99, Jamestown 70
Turnovers and poor defense cost the Jimmie women (4-6, 2-4 NSIC) again. Minnesota Crookston (2-9, 1-5), who entered the game shooting 39 percent from the field, shot 51 percent while scoring 35 points in the first quarter, 51 in the first half and 48 in the second half. For the third game in succession and for the fifth time this season, Jamestown committed at least 20 turnovers. This time, the total was 21.
Emma Miller, UMC’s all-time leading scorer, scored 33, her 10th career game with at least 30 points. She hit four three-pointers, had four rebounds, dished out six assists and had five steals. Anna Westby scored 21 and Riley Jenkins had 19.
Samantha Paulsen scored 18 off the bench to lead the Jimmies. Haidyn Crockett scored 13. Allie Berns and Jessika Lofstrom scored 12, with all of Lofstrom’s points coming on four threes.
On Saturday, the Jimmies will play their final games before the mandated holiday break at MSU Moorhead. Coverage will begin on Saturday at 3:00 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
