JAMESTOWN, ND (Ryan Cunningham, NewsDakota.com)  Two defensive clinics propelled Edgeley-Kulm/Montpelier and LaMoure/Litchville-Marion to the finals of Region 1B girls basketball Tuesday.

E-E-K 43, Linton-HMB 28

The Rebels forced 21 turnovers and held the Lions to just 13 points in the middle quarters, holding Linton-HMB scoreless for six-and-a-half minutes of the third in the win.

Betsy Huber scored 13 points and grabbed six boards for the Rebels.  Jaelyn Bertsch scored nine and pulled down six rebounds, and used her athleticism to break Linton pressure late in the gane.   Anna Schlecht and Mazie Tjernlund each chipped in eight.

Bobbi Janczerwski led the Lions with eight.  Avery Vande Vorste and Brooklyn Schumacher each added six.

The result was considered an upset after the Rebels finished fourth in the District 2 tournament, with the Lions finishing second last week.

LaMoure/L-M 46, Sargent County 15

The Bulldogs were held without a field goal the entire second half, with the Loboes outscoring them 27-2 after the break.

Meanwhile, LaMoure/L-M shook off early foul trouble, with guard Mia Van Eeden carrying the freight in the first half while posts Norah and Julia DelaBarre waited to compliment each other in the second half.   Van Eeden scored nine of her 11 in the first half.

Norah DelaBarre scored a game-high 13, and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds.  Julia DelaBarre added 10 all after halftime.  Addy Smith notched eight points while grabbing 10 boards.

Mallory Bogart led Sargent County with seven. The tournament continues Thursday.  Sargent County meets Linton-HMB in the third-place game, with the winner advancing to the state qualifying round Saturday.   Edgeley-Kulm/Montpelier faces LaMoure/Litchville-Marion for the regional championship, with the winner advancing to state.   The runner-up also advances to the state qualifying round.
