SIOUX FALLS, SD – There wasn’t a win for Jamestown Jimmie Baseball, but there was much more fight than the day before, and there was a baseball rarity.

NSIC leader Augustana completed a three-game sweep with a 10-7 win over Jamestown Friday at Ronken Field.  The Jimmies (5-16, 1-8 NSIC) stayed in the game, having the tying run at the plate in the top of the ninth, a day after giving up 30 runs in losing both games of a doubleheader.

Carter McPeak singled, doubled and drove in three runs for Augustana (15-5, 9-0), including two on a two-out double that put the Vikings ahead for good, 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

Two seventh-inning runs brought the Jimmies to within 7-6 and they trailed 10-6 before scoring a run on a Ryder Peace RBI single in the top of the ninth.  Trayson Kostial singled to bring the tying run to the plate, but Mason Shea flew out to end the game.

The rarity was a triple play Jamestown turned in the bottom of the first inning.  With runners on first and second, both Brandon Weigel and Carter Heinsch took off on what appeared to be a hit-and-run.  Former UJ player Troy Berg hit a soft liner that was caught by pitcher Mason McCaffery.  McCaffery threw to second baseman Jett Nelson for the second out, and Nelson then threw to first baseman Kostial to easily complete the triple play.

Jamestown led 1-0 with a second-inning run before Augustana scored two runs in each of the second and third innings.  The Jimmies equaled the game with three runs in the top of the fourth.  Melvin Maldonado drove in the first on a sacrifice fly that was dropped by McPeak.  Benney Benitez singled in the second run of the frame and Matty Morin beat out an infield hit to tie the game.

UJ will meet Minnesota Crookston in a series scheduled for March 22 and 23.
