
QUINCY, IL – Again, the match was tight, but again, Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Volleyball couldn’t move in front.
Quincy defeated Jamestown in three close sets Friday 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 at Pepsi Arena.
Bauer Larson had 13 kills for the Hawks (6-6, 3-0 GLVC). Barnabas Fenyvesi had 11 kills and two total blocls. Tomas Badan had seven kills, four aces and four blocks.
Chase Hawkinson led the attack for Jamestown (6-14, 0-3) with 14 kills and two total blocks. He also had eight digs. Lucas Soeldner and Ladarius Williams had two kills each. Williams also served two aces.
UJ had a 6-5 lead in the first set before Quincy scored six points in a row. Three of those were aces by Badan. Hawkinson and Ethan Carroll combined on a block to bring Jamestown within 14-12, but Quincy scored five of the next six points, helped by kills from Badan, Fenyvesi and Trey Severson.
Two kills by Hawkinson helped the Jimmies take an 8-3 lead in the second set. Quincy trailed 9-4 before scoring a 6-1 run and a 10-10 tie with two kills by Zackary Zdrojeski and one by Bauer Larson. Jamestown had a 21-19 advantage before a kill by Fenyvesi, an ace by Isaiah Travis and two more kills by Fenyvesi made the Hawks’ lead 23-21.
Hawkinson smashed three kills at the start of the third set to aid in a 6-1 Jimmie lead. Hawkinson and Soelder had kills for the first and third of three straight points for a 22-18 lead for the Jimmies. Quincy then struck back with six straight points. Fenyvesi, Badan and Larson had kills and Travis served an ace for a Quincy lead of 24-22. Hawkinson saved one match point with a kill, but Quincy was good on the second on a kill by Badan.
Jamestown will again play at Quincy on Saturday afternoon.
