
QUINCY, IL – For the second straight day, Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Volleyball came close, but not close enough.
Quincy swept Jamestown 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 at Pepsi Arena to keep the Jimmies winless in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Zackary Zdrojeski and Barnabas Fenyvesi had 10 kills each for Quincy (7-6, 4-0 GLVC). Zdrojeski also had five total blocks and Tomas Badan registered eight.
Chase Hawkinson scored 14 kills for Jamestown (6-15, 0-4). Lucas Soeldner had 11 kills, an ace and eight digs. Rowan Shaughnessy notched 17 set assists.
After trailing 10-4 in the first set, the Jimmies rallied to tie at 16-16 on a kill by Hawkinson, 17-17 on a kill by Soeldner and 18-18 on another Hawkinson kill. Quincy then scored three straight points for Jamestown rallied to cut the lead to 22-21 on a Hawkinson kill, but the Hawks had consecutive kills by Fenyvesi, Zdrojeski and Badan to win the set.
Four kills were included in a 6-1 run by Quincy to give them an 11-6 lead in the second set. Jamestown came within three points, but a kill by Zdrojeski and an ace by Travis Mendoza for the 23rd and 24th points helped the Hawks to a two-set lead.
The third set was even at 2-2 before Quincy scored four straight and Jamestown couldn’t come any closer than three points down for the rest of the set.
Jamestown hit .184 while Quincy hit .310.
The Jimmies will play Missouri S&T Friday and Saturday in Rolla, Missouri.
