MANKATO, MN – In its first NSIC conference games, Jamestown Jimmies Softball stayed tight but still lost out.

Minnesota State spoiled the Jimmies’ conference debut Friday with a 3-0 and 4-3 sweep of a doubleheader at the Maverick Sports Dome.

Game 1: Minnesota St. 3, Jamestown 0
An eight-game winning streak ended for Jamestown (19-5, 0-1 NSIC) in its debut in its new conference as Maddie Oetzmann (8-3) shut out the Jimmies on five hits for Minnesota State (14-11, 1-0).

Hope Ransome (5-4) lost, giving up two runs (one earned) in four innings.

A throwing error by Jimmie third baseman Natalie Draper allowed the first run to score for the Mavericks in the bottom of the first inning. Maddie Helin hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for MSU and Nyah Hulbert homered for the third run in the sixth.

Sonya Rodgers tripled for the Jimmies.

Game 2: Minnesota St. 4, Jamestown 3
Ransome (5-5), this time appearing in relief, threw a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring home the go-ahead run for MSU (15-11, 2-0 NSIC).

Jamestown (19-6, 0-2) fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first. An error by Sydney Grendler scored one run and the second came across on an RBI single by Izzy Hycnar.

Carly Kimmes made the Maverick lead 3-0 with an RBI bunt single in the fourth.

The Jimmies rallied in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. A bases-loaded walk to Maddie Spaeth scored the first run, then Grendler singled in the other two.

On Saturday in Mankato, the Jimmies will play a doubleheader against Winona State.
