ST. LOUIS, MO – The latest tough test for Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Volleyball was at the conference leader, and the home team was in control.

Maryville swept UJ on Friday 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 at Moloney Arena to remain undefeated in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Maryville (12-5, 7-0 GLVC) dominated, hitting .531 and committing only five attack errors while having 39 kills to the Jimmies’ 24.  Aidan Whitemountain led the Saints with 11 kills.  Jayden Rookhuyzen and Makai Scott each had seven.

Lucas Soeldner had 10 kills for Jamestown (6-18, 0-7).  Rowan Shaughnessy had 14 set assists.

While Maryville didn’t commit a single error in the first set, the Saints’ first seven points all came off Jimmie attack or service errors.  Later, Whitemountain and Scott had three kills each as Maryville cruised.

Soeldner had two early kills as Jamestown started better in the second set, trailing only 7-6.  Maryville then scored nine straight points and eased their way to a two-set lead.

Soeldner killed three more times in the third set as UJ stayed closer a little longer.  The Jimmies were down just 15-12 before Maryville scored five of the next six points in working their way forward to the sweep.

Jamestown will play Maryville in St. Louis again on Saturday.
