
JAMESTOWN – Ella Bry scored twice in the first half Saturday as Grand Forks Red River won 5-2 over Jamestown Blue Jays Girls Soccer in the season opener at UJ’s Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.
The Riders scored all their first half goals in a four-minute stretch, with Bry scoring in the fourth minute, Alexia Giannopoulos making it 2-0 in the sixth minute and Bry tallying it again in the eighth minute.
Briella Martin, assisted by Amelia Newman, gave the Blue Jays their first goal of the season in the 10th minute and Red River led 3-1 at halftime.
Martin then set up Quinn Biloff in the 42nd minute to bring Jamestown within 3-2. But Tayor Hodny answered for Red River in the 44th minute. Giannopoulos scored again in the 56th minute.
Blue Jays’ goalkeeper Anna Lunde made four saves.
Jamestown will open WDA play at Bismarck on Tuesday.
