WILLISTON – It wasn’t easy for Jamestown Blue Jays Softball, but the postseason often isn’t that way.

Jamestown held on Friday for a 4-3 win over Minot North in an elimination game of the Class A West Region Softball Tournament at Williston State College’s Leininger Field.

The Blue Jays (19-13), who were held to four hits Thursday in a quarterfinal loss to Bismarck, banged out 10 hits in this game.  Sophia Bond had three hits and Kinlee Klettke had two.  Brooke Jackson had a hit and three walks.

Maddie Hoff (12-5) struck out seven and worked her way out of trouble in the sixth and seventh innings, where Minot North (13-16) had two-out rallies in each inning.

Jamestown took advantage of a walk, three hits and a wild pitch to break a scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning.  Bond singled in the first run, Graves lined out while knocking in the second and Hoff helped herself with an RBI double.

Cole Kotaska drove in a run with an infield single in the fourth for Minot North’s first run.  The Sentinels cut Jamestown’s lead to 3-2 in the top of sixth after a two-out RBI single by Eliese McCann.

The Blue Jays produced what turned out to be a very needed insurance run in the last of the sixth after there were two out and nobody on.  Jackson walked, Bond singled and Jarrett, with her first hit of the tournament, brought in Jackson with a single and Jamestown was up 4-2.

Minot North rallied in the seventh after two out and nobody on.  Kinzy Welstad singled and Tiecyn Hertz doubled Welstad home.  Hoff then retired Kate Coleman on a ground out to end the game.

Jamestown will play Saturday in a state qualifier against Mandan.  Coverage will begin at 10:45 AM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
