VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Valley City Public Schools has hired former standout player Chase Carpenter as the next head coach of the Valley City High School boys basketball program.

A 2013 graduate of Valley City High School, Carpenter returns to his alma mater after seven years of coaching experience.

During his prep career with the Hi-Liners, Carpenter earned all-state honors in 2013 and joined the school’s 1,000-point club. He later competed in basketball and baseball at Valley City State University from 2013-18 while earning a degree in physical and health education with a coaching minor.

“Coming back to Valley City High School, a place that played such an important role in my life, is incredibly meaningful,” Carpenter said in a statement. “I’m honored and excited to have the opportunity to lead the boys basketball program at my alma mater.”

Carpenter said he hopes to continue the tradition of the program while building strong relationships with players and the community.

“My goal is to build a program centered on hard work, accountability, toughness, and pride in representing Valley City,” he said.

Valley City Activities Director Rob Hunt said Carpenter’s connection to the school and community made him a strong fit for the position.

“We are thrilled to bring Chase back to Valley City,” Hunt said. “There is something special about having a former Hi-Liner return to coach. He understands what this program and community mean, and we are excited for the energy and direction he will bring.”

A team meeting for current players is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the HAC lobby.
